The joy of Winter gardening

I've been desperate to get out in the garden and weed around all the shoots that are poking through the soil, so that all the crocus, daffodils, bluebells, tulips and alium will all look at their best when they start flowering. The hard frost of late has prevented me doing anything and when it finally brightened up today I was straight into my wellies, woolly hat and bodywarmer (definitely not a fashionista!) and into the garden. Half an hour later the sky blackened and stinging balls of ice lashed me and I was forced to give up before I had really even got started.

I love high contrast, super detailed black & white portraits and have had a go at achieving a similar effect with this. Does it work? - would love your views / advice.
